Angelica Schuyler: ENTP

(This is a phone draft; I'll polish and conclude later.)

Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton the Musical is literally the most ENTP character I've ever seen. Not like any other clear ENTP characters (Joker in all Batmans, Shawn Spencer from Psych) are less or less clear ENTPs, but considering HTM is a musical and Angelica soliloquies for five solid minutes, it's practically explicit that she's an ENTP. I don't think it warrants analysis, but I like talking about it and also I've browsed some forums where people tried to think otherwise, so I suppose I don't mind pointing out the obvious.

→ Dominant Function: Ne (Extraverted Intuition)

Angelica is so open to new ideas, she's always looking for them before she judges! (I'm presently on a kick on what it means to perceive before judge vs judge before perceive so this is going to have little shades of that.) Specifically in The Schuyler Sisters especially, she talks about "looking for a mind at work," and Burr says that she's "searchin' for an urchin who'll give [her] ideas." Considering the context of the play as a woman, she actively looks for them - not meanings (which would be more Ni) but just the ideas themselves!

Anyway, the whole point of The Schuyler Sisters is that while the three girls are breaking their father's rules and going out, Angelica is more or less dragging her sisters along because she wants to see the political revolution and soak up the intellectual energy and be witness to it. We even have her singing:

New ideas in the air

Her mind is always prepared and ready and willing to go for any concept or idea, which is a very dominant Ne trait.

There's a lot more I can say about this but it's more in combination too with her auxiliary Ti, which we're going to now.

→ Auxiliary Function: Ti (Introverted Thinking)

Okay, so Renee says at some point that the fast rap/singing in Satisfied is literally representative of how fast Angelica's mind works. Which it is. This is significantly Ne, admittedly, but I'm moving it here because in Satisfied Angelica also sings:

I know my sister like I know my own mind

This is pretty much explicitly Ti, more or less aux Ti. Angelica knows even more than us how fast her mind works - especially when she has her three realizations in the span of like five seconds in "Satisfied" - because not only does she allow the ideas to come to her as dominantly and as fast as they do with her dominant Ne, she also lays them out and reasons with them remarkably fast because of her auxiliary Ti. She explains to us all three of those reasons using (sympathetic! which I'm getting to next) logic.

Plus, she's the "wittiest" and she "match[es] wits" with Alexander whom we already know is intelligent. What makes her ability with logic only auxiliary to her search for ideas is that unlike INTPs who first internally judge to project extraverted perceptions, Angelica sees the ideas: reading common sense, flirting and meeting with Alexander - and then shortly after determining her internal judgments. She even laments that if she hadn't perceived his motives so quickly, she wouldn't have reached the logical conclusions as deftly as she did.

She knows her mind well, but rather than living in it first, she looks more to constantly fill it.

→ Tertiary Function: Fe (Extraverted Feeling)

I KNOW MY SISTER LIKE I KNOW MY OWN MIND
YOU WILL NEVER FIND ANYONE AS TRUSTING OR AS KIND

I LOVE MY SISTER MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS LIFE
I WILL CHOOSE HER HAPPINESS OVER MINE EVERY TIME

→ Inferior Function: Si (Introverted Sensing)

This plays a direct and obvious opposite with her dominant Ne: breaking her father's rules, reading Payne's "Common Sense" when it was unusual for women to read at the time, much less when it came to politics. Eventually we see her settle down with her eventual husband but she explicitly tells us that it's not her ideal situation and she would like to be with someone less boring and more intellectually stimulating. She knows it's reasonable and conventional to which is why she does it... but we know that she doesn't like conventions, that if she had the choice she would pick a less traditional and "safe" lifestyle.
